  • (Floor pan) The floorpan is a large sheet metal stamping that often incorporates several smaller welded stampings to form the floor of a large vehicle and the position of its external and structural panels.

  • (Floor pan) The metal structure on the bottom of the car. Almost all newer cars are unit body (or unibody) construction, and the floor pan provides the foundation for chassis stiffness. Your feet usually rest on a floor pan when you are in a car.

The Mercedes R129 SL class ran from 1989-2001 based on a shortened floor pan of the W124 featuring among other things optional electronically controlled damping and a hidden automatically extended roll over bar. The rear swing axle of the out going R107 was replaced with a multi-link axle. The car also had electronic, mirrors, windows and a convertible top. In 1994 the cars were renamed eg. SL500 became 500SL, along with the dropping of the 3.0ltr engines in favour of a 3.2ltr. The range received a mid-life revamp in 1995
